Review & Giveaway: TruDog®: The Power of Raw Without the Thaw

2023 Update: TruDog is now owned by Halo and their Feed Me line is now their Meal Bites

Raw feeding is all the rage and has become one of the best options in nutrition for your pup. But it does get messy and complicated when it comes to preparing it. This is where freeze-dried comes in! This preserves the nutrients and all you have to do is add water. I love these types of raw food as it is so convenient. One of our readers suggested the brand we are reviewing today! Introducing...TruDog®!

TruDog Logo

TruDog® is a small pet food company from the midwest U.S. created by Lori Taylor. Lori had lost her Great Dane Truman to cancer and made it a mission to find the best dog food to take care of our beloved furry family members. (Truman-TruDog, see a resemblance?) She started feeding traditional raw food, but she found it all to be a pain in the rear, haha. Lori figured out how to freeze-dry her raw food with a small processor and TruDog was born! They have many great products available like supplements, but we are focusing on their yummy food line called "Feed Me" this time. We have their turkey and beef varieties to try out...

Crunchy Munchy Gourmet Gobbler

So the first food of TruDog's Feed Me line is their Crunchy Munchy Gourmet Gobbler. This is turkey-based with ground turkey with bone, turkey heart, and turkey liver. There is a typo on the front of the package and herring oil is listed twice (they are working to fix it), but the ingredients are great!

The freeze-dried raw bites are small little nuggets that smell really good. I didn't have to feed the girls very much at all because it is so concentrated. 3/4 of a cup for a 12-pound dog per day.

All you have to do is add water and let it sit for a little bit. The kibble doesn't like to soak the water too much, so it stays crunchy.

Bailey really seemed to enjoy the Turkey flavor. It looks like such a small amount for her to eat, but she acted satisfied after eating.

Crunchy Munchy Beef Bonanza

Also smelling really good, the Crunchy Munchy Beef Bonanza dog food is excellent quality. Love all the ingredients especially because it is 99% beef meat, bones, and organs. All of TruDog's food is made in a USDA-certified and inspected building- wow! No added anything either. Gotta love limited ingredients.

TruDog makes Jada smile

Jada tried the beef flavor out and scarfed it down (while making a bit of a mess which she gladly cleaned up). TruDog has a texture that is similar to puffed cereal. I know this because the sound the dogs make when they are eating sound just like me when I am shoveling cereal into my mouth. Don't judge.

In a Nutshell...

  • TruDog® is a small family-owned brand that has many different pet products including their freeze-dried raw dog food line called "Feed Me"
  • There are two varieties- Turkey and Beef
  • The ingredients are limited and include 99% real meat, vital organs, & meaty bone- No artificial anything and made in the U.S.A.!
  • Everything is made in a USDA certified and inspected building
  • You can buy TruDog at their online shop

This is a great freeze-dried raw food that I would recommend feeding your pups if you want to try out raw! This is also a great food if you are already using raw, but want something convenient for on the road. Because of its crunchiness, this is a good semihard food if your dog prefers the texture of kibble or if you are weaning them off of it.

  3. Nala and Cody have had the occasional raw treat and have had quite a few different freeze dried raw treats and food and they have liked most of them. They prefer the ones that have more meat and fewer veggies and starches but they usually enjoy raw.

  9. We have never tried feeding raw, but this seems like a great way to do so without having to prepare our own food (which is what has deterred us from doing so before)

  15. My other dog Mike, my darling senior dog who died this year loved the raw. I have a new rescue (a MinPin named Milo); he's getting up to speed with two operations - he's still in the cone an adjusting to his life in his forever home. His tummy seems to be very sensitive and I want to move him to raw once I get him of the prescribed stuff from the vet.

  16. We haven't tried Raw yet but definitely considering it! My baby girl is sensitive to somethings, she gets super itchy and the hot spots. I've started giving her goats milk everyday and she's better but not there yet.

  40. I was trying to purchase your dog food then lost the site. It promoted one bag for $1.00. My concern is that I don't want this to be an automatic withdrawal from my account.
