Review & Giveaway: The Benefits of Using BVH Pet Care Premium Dog Shampoo & Conditioner

Bathing your dog is something all pet parents have to do eventually and it is important that you use the right product. Human shampoo is harmful to their skin because it is not pH balanced and can really dry it out. I remember one time Dottie had terrible dandruff and I asked my stepmom what she used for her bath and it turns out she had used some shampoo for people. Bad idea! We have a great natural dog shampoo and conditioner to share with you today from BVH Pet Care.

BVH Pet Care was started by dog lovers and System Engineers Robert and Vicki Hengen in 2014. These two started their company after getting Rottweilers and learning about all these myths that surround pet care (the difference between fur and hair for instance-there isn’t one except for visually). After gathering much information they decided to improve how we bathe our dogs using science, not myths, and with the aid of FDA approved laboratories and manufacturers. BVH Pet Care has produced two products, the Premium Dog Shampoo and Conditioner and the Dog Ear Cleanser. Next month we will take a look at the ear cleanser, but for this week, let’s take a dip in the bath!

Whelp, there isn’t an ingredient list on the bottle, but on their site, the ingredients are listed as: Purified Water based formula, Coconut extracts, Palm extracts, Citrus extracts, and Rapeseed extracts. Having a dog with allergies means that I really like short lists like these. What is even better is that there aren’t any chemicals or dyes, there are natural ingredients and it is made in the U.S.A.! To top things off, it is cruelty-free! But with so few ingredients, does it really work?

Jada and Dotting bathing with BVH Pet Care Premium Dog Shampoo & Conditioner
"I think we are in for it this time..."

So imagine you are sitting at your desk and this utterly foul stench wafts in your general direction. Your face shrivels up as hits your nose. As you turn around, you see a guilty looking Jada who just entered the room. Turns out this stanky dog just rolled around in a dead armadillo, and it wasn’t just her, Bailey and Dottie also reek of the dead mammal’s stench. So this stink fest turned out to happen at the right time for me to try it out with the BVH Pet Care Premium Dog Shampoo and Conditioner.

"Why do you hate me so, Auntie?"

The instructions are just like any dog shampoo: wet your dog’s coat, lather the product in your dog’s fur, and rinse. BVH does recommend for the shampoo to stay in for around 10 minutes so that it can absorb and replenish nutrients better. The scent is not overpowering at all, and has a light citrus scent (or licorice scent, depends on your smeller. It can smell like both to me, haha) The reason behind the mild scent is for sensitive dogs. Sometimes heavily scented grooming products can cause medical issues like skin and airway irritation. And plus. sometimes you don't want your dog smelling like the perfume aisle at the mall!

"Curse you, mama!"

So, Bailey hates baths. Her little body shakes and she just doesn’t enjoy them at all. BVH Pet Care Premium Dog Shampoo and Conditioner is an easy rinse formula which meant that I didn’t have to go over her fur with the sprayer over and over to get the product out. I literally only had to go over her twice and all the suds were gone! Easy peasy bath time for Miss Bailey.

"Just pretending I'm not here..."

How often do you bathe your dog? As recommended by our vet, Jada and Bailey get a bath every week for their allergies. Especially when the seasons change, you get all these environmental goodies that cling to your dog’s fur and wreck havoc causing your pup to itch and scratch. Or maybe you are the one suffering from environmental allergies? Dogs make great carriers, but bathing frequently can reduce the reaction. BVH Pet Care Premium Dog Shampoo & Conditioner is gentle enough not to cause your dog’s fur to dry out and cause other problems.

Bailey looking fluffy because of BVH Pet Care Premium Dog Shampoo & Conditioner
"I forgive you...for now"

After the bath, I didn’t brush them or anything. Just did a towel dry with plenty of zoomies around the house. Being a schnauzer, Dottie was softer than a sheep! (Trust me, I used to work with those silly ruminants) Her fur wasn’t dried out at all, but soft, supple, and smooth! I caught Bailey on my bed later that night and noticed her fur was quite fluffy as well. I usually have to brush her out right after to get her hair like that, but it wasn’t needed! This was a result of the fur conditioner in the product that helps to control mild matting and detangling.

So I know what you all are asking at this point - did it help with the dead armadillo stench? YES! I went from not being able to be in the same room as Jada, to having my nose deep in her fur. Call me impressed!

  1. I have four rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds. For the most part, they don't really like baths, although my boy, Kenji, is the worst. I've put him in the tub to clean his feet when he's been out in the mud and he almost tore down the shower curtain and knocked the doggie shampoo and some other things across the room. It's funny, in a way, but I also really don't like to stress him. However, they all do need baths.

  7. Your dogs are so cute, although, they don't look very happy in these pictures! BOL! My sweet baby, Toby Tangles, hates baths! When she suspects it's that time, she will run and sometimes gets so nervous, she tinkles. I always feel so bad for her. I know that when it's over, she feels so much better! I actually gave her a bath yesterday and she did pleasantly well. I like to give her a bath once a week, you know, just so she stays clean and fresh!
