Review & Giveaway: How to Maintain Your Pet's Smile with VetriScience® Perio Support

Dealing with doggie or kitty breath? Are you brushing your pet's teeth daily, but still having issues? VetriScience®'s Perio Support is a dog and cat supplement I would suggest to help beat the stink!

We met them at BlogPaws this year and we just loved them! We were very impressed with the ingredients in their products and we are doing a couple of product reviews to introduce the brand to The Chesnut Mutts readers- a.k.a. you! So to start off, we will be looking at their Perio Support dental health supplement.

VetriScience Perio Support

Dental health is so important for our beloved pets because it affects other organs like heart, kidneys, and lungs. A very high percentage of dogs and cats have poor dental health and this is typical because brushing them is not a priority for pet parents.

According to our vet, it is advised to brush them with an enzymatic toothpaste before your pets go to bed at night. I would recommend using supplements like Perio to help with reducing plaque and bad breath, plus to get your pet on the right track when it comes to overall dental health.

When it comes to supplements, I expect a lot of big words in the ingredient list! Let's break down some of these and find out their purpose...

Natural Zeolites

Zeolite is a mineral that is used commonly as an odor absorbent. In the pet industry, you can find it in cat litter and aquarium filters. In this supplement, it helps prevent plaque formation.

Cranberry Extract

Besides Urinary Tract Infection relief and antioxidant qualities, cranberries are also used as a deodorizer and prevents plaque build up on the teeth and tissue destruction.

Yucca Schidigera Extract

Yucca Schdigera is a desert plant that is found in a lot of pet food nowadays because of its deodorizing properties on pet stool. In this supplement, it helps prevent gum problems.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus
Enterococcus Faecium

These are both bacteria that help with restoring microbial balance in your pet's mouth.

Anise Oil

Besides giving the supplement a licorice smell, Anise has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties for oral health.

So the powder is very light and is a whiteish color with a slight licorice smell because of the Anise Oil. According to the instructions, dogs and cats up to 15 lbs get 1/4 tsp per meal.

The powder stuck very well to our kibble and I am sure it wouldn't have any problem with wet or raw food. Just to add more moisture, I like to add warm water!

The girls did not have any problem with the supplement and ate their food happily as usual. We continued adding Perio to their morning and evening meals every day for over 30 days to see how much of a difference it would make.

Jada had a vet visit during this time where they scraped her teeth a bit, so let's look at Bailey's teeth after over 30 days using VetriScience's Perio.

The amount of plaque had not increased and her breath was a lot better! The purpose of this product is to reduce plaque formation and to maintain clean teeth and breath, so it did the trick! I would still brush your dog's teeth every day, but as prevention and a breath freshener, I would recommend Perio!

Now, we didn't try this out on the cats, but I have no doubt that Perio would yield results for them as well!
