We met the company DOG for DOG in Nashville for the BlogPaws conference and hit it off pretty well. While Everett and Delmar got close with their Director of Giving, Dakota Dunn, we learned about their amazing company and all that they do for shelter pets!
The California-based company's philosophy is "You buy one, we give one", so what does that mean? For every product you buy of theirs, they give an equal amount of dog food to shelters! Cool, huh?
DOG for DOG has DOGSFOOD, DOGSTREATS, DOGBARS, DOGSBUTTER, and DOGSPA items to pick from. We were given a couple of these items to review!
This kibble size is pretty small, great for the little dogs. I like that it is made in the U.S.A. and free of corn, wheat, and soy. The first ingredients are chicken meal, turkey meal, and peas. Peas are a common substitute for grains to help bind the dog food together. I was a bit disapointed that salmon wasn't higher on the list, even though it is a salmon recipe. It also is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO dog nutrient profiles for all life stages and shows kcal per cup which is helpful to determine how much food to give your dog.
Dibble and Dottie seemed to really enjoy the food and ate every bit up!
This is a story that is on the back of the bag:
"Our team always wanted to make a difference, but for every adoption we did, every dog we rescued, and every donation we made it still didn't seem to be enough. we wanted to make a bigger impact. DOG for DOG's movement is to help as many dogs as we can. we believe all dogs deserve love and proper nutrition. For every bag of DOGSFOOD sold, we will donate a bag to a dog in need. That's right, simple: when you buy one, we give one. BAG for BAG. DOG for DOG. We thank you...they thank you!"They have 3 different recipes with 2 sizes: Grain Free Ocean Fish and Salmon (4.5 lb 17.99), Lamb and Brown Rice (4.5 lbs 15.99), and Pork and Brown Rice (4.5 lbs 12.99)
These small treats are very soft and chewy which make for a great training treat!
The dogs seemed to really enjoy them too! These would be good for little dogs as well as training.
They have 4 treat varieties, including two mini recipes all at the same price (7.99): Peanut Butter, Chicken, Mini Duck, and Mini Peanut Butter
Our last item is DOGSBUTTER! Yes, you read that right. This is peanut butter for dogs which is all natural, great source of protein, free of gluten, no added salt, sugar, hydrogenated oils, corn, wheat, and soy. We were given the Skin & Coat formula which supports your pup with flaxseed, vegetable oil, and coconut. I love that it is only a couple of ingredients!
"Dogs love peanut butter, so we thought we'd make one that not only taste great, that is good for them as well."This product is genius! Especially with how many people like to give their dogs peanut butter as a snack. And just recently, a brand came out with xylitol (very bad for dogs) in their PB, so the safe bet would to stick to these DOG for DOG peanut butters.
Dibble and Dottie really liked it and made a huge mess on their beards because they loved it so much! I think this would be great to put in a treat toy and freeze for those hot days.
When it comes to DOGSBUTTER there are 3 different varieties (9.99): Skin and Coat, Immunity and Digestion, and Original Flaxseed
