We have a twofer for you this time around! I was asked by MiracleCorp if Jada and Bailey would like to test out a couple of Hamilton Pet collars and I had just ordered some tags from Jolly Awesome Pet Tags, so I decided to test both at once!
Designing the tags |
I won a voucher for three tags in a giveaway from Peanut Butter and Whine. Now, these aren't your typical tags! They are made out of a thick plastic substrate that you can put your own design or picture on. Jolly Awesome Pet Tags claim to be resistant to scratches, UV damage, and even breaks. One of the best things about these tags is that it is noise-free! Goodbye rude awakenings at night!
The designing tools that the site gives you are a little hard to maneuver if you want a complex design like I was going for, so I decided to do all the designing in Microsoft Publisher and then paste it into the program.
As you can see my design came out just great! I was so excited to get the tags and they shipped very fast! The front of the tags are full color and the back is black and white. The one thing I wish is if they would throw in a couple of split rings to attach the tags. Now..onto the collars!
At first glance, these look like your typical adjustable nylon collars, but there are a couple of neat and nifty differences! First off, I LOVE this blue color! The little Hamilton logo on the plastic buckles is a nice touch and the buckles secure nicely to boot. Different colors have different colored "O" rings and this could be a downside if you change out tags often because it could scratch the paint.
Scratches! |
You can see that adding a split ring (as carefully as I can) to the collar has scratched up the rings a bit, but you can't see it as well on the unpainted one. When adding the ring to the tags it became scratched up as well. I was a bit disappointed because of the scratch-resistant claim and that these are meant to have split rings or something similar attached to them.
Looking cute and adorable! |
The tags are 1"x 2" like a dog tag, which is a bit big for 9-pound Bailey here. Thankfully I did a little trick where you just hook the split ring onto the collar itself so tags won't dangle too low.

Jada watching for golf carts and looking stylish |
I recently started walking around the neighborhood with the girls and Jada is still quite the puller. She is doing a lot better, but let's just say I am very impressed at the durability of the collars. I felt like I had better control with this collar than previous ones, maybe because the pulling tension is spread out better.
I put the rats' tag on their cage and they amazingly don't even bother it! |

Jolly Awesome Pet Tags
In a nutshell...
- Made out of a plastic substrate
- "noise-free" and very durable
- Can design it as you like with your own picture
- $16.96 for 3 tags on their website
- My dogs were able to provide some obvious wear on the tags after a few weeks.
I think if you have an indoor dog or one that doesn't free roam outside you wouldn't have as much wear. This is a great product and love that I can put whatever design I want on it. There are so many uses!

Review: Hamilton Pet Adjustable Nylon Collars & Jolly Awesome Pet Tags http://t.co/siAxq2JcWw on @bloglovin— Abby Chesnut (@TheChesnutMutts) February 18, 2015
Those collars sound like they are worth checking out! I always feel sorry for dogs who have a lot of metal tags. If it hurts my ears, imagine how loud it is to them their sensitive ears being so close to the tags! What a couple of cuties you have!
ReplyDeleteTrue that! Thank you Beth!
DeleteI think it's smart that they're now making collars that clip after going through the d-ring. That keeps the buckle away from the dog's skin and hair better. I would probably use these tags as crate tags for my dogs since they're so big. However, they're great for crates and cars since they have so much information on them and a picture!
ReplyDeleteI like that too. Using the tags on crates would be great!
DeleteI bought a Hamilton collar and leash set for my first Boxer bitch when she was a year our so old. She died just short of 9 and items were still great shape. I washed them to get rid of dirt and her fit, then donated them to a Boxer rescue. I'm sure they are working and looking great on some lucky dog today, 3 years after my donation.
ReplyDeleteI do think their buckle method helps distribute the stress on the collar from pulling, I certainly never worried about my Boxer boy breaking the buckle, even on his strongest day.
Wow, that is awesome that the collar and leash lasted that long! I definitely felt a difference when walking my girls and I had never used a collar like it before.
DeleteMy Chuleta doesn't pull, at all (she's only 5 pounds), so my primary concern for her collars is aesthetic, lol. I love Hamilton because they have beautiful colors, as well as all that match: harness-collar-lead. It's good to know that they can handle pulling from larger breeds, though!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am jealous! Lol. The colors that they come in are great and they don't seem to fade too bad either! :)
DeleteThey wear them well! Cute idea and love those nylon collars.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteJD just had to get a new collar because the old one was falling apart. Cookie has a harness. I'd prefer a harness for JD too but he chews them up.
ReplyDeleteI think it would take a good while for these collars to fall apart! One of my friend's dogs wears a harness instead of a collar. Do you see any advantages/disadvantages in doing this? I had to watch the dog for a while and it was a little hard to get ahold of him. lol.
DeleteI love the rich colors. Wondering if the buckle is easy to open? My mom has trouble with buckles sometimes
ReplyDeleteMe too! I had no problems with it! :)
DeleteThe collars look awesome. I had a collar come loose once and it was scary, so I switched to the old fashioned buckle type. But this looks sturdy, and a good price too. The tags are cute, although a bit large.
ReplyDeleteWe had a buckle one for a while, I like them but I think I prefer being able to adjust it so it fits just right and not have that extra bit of collar hanging out. Yeah, maybe they will come up with a smaller size :)
DeleteThis looks like a collar I would try on my coonhound who can slip out of every collar and harness I've tried so far!
ReplyDeleteWow! Yeah, I would definitely try it out! I was able to adjust it just right to fit the girls so they wouldn't be able to slip out. :)
DeleteVery nice collar, but that pet tag is so big. Love all the adorable dog photos in your review. ~Rascal and Rocco
ReplyDeleteYeah, they are a bit big on my little girls! Thank you so much! :D
DeleteThose tags are super cute! The collars look nice and durable too. I love all the photos of your dogs. They are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThe possibilities are endless for what you can put on them! Thank you! :D
DeleteLove those tags! They'd be the "pyrfect" size for my pups :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I see what you did there! ;D
DeleteBut yeah, I totally agree!
What a great and honest review, I sure love those collars!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I always keep it honest!
DeleteI love these tags, but Im not sure if I would be able to use them without the damage you described! The boys get into everything!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the girls free roam around our property so they love to go on adventures. I think they would be better on something else like crates or backpacks.
DeleteI haven't seen tags like this before! They are super cute. Love your design!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
DeleteThose are the cutest tags!! Love them!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteI bet those would make fun luggage tags too :)
