I've only been in the pet community for a couple of years, and I am sure you have also seen many products advertising to get rid of stubborn tear stains. But what exactly are these frustrating streaks?
What are tear stains?
Tear stains are caused by a high production of tears which is usually caused by excessive irritation, blocked tear drains, or shallow eye sockets. Any breed can have these problems, but you will see it most notice it more often on light-haired dogs and certain breeds like poodles, pugs, and spaniels. (source)
Why are the stains a reddish color?
Just like rats, dogs have porphyrin in their saliva and tears. This compound contains iron, which make it appear red and darkens over time. (source)
So what can we do about it?
If you can figure out the cause of the irritation, it can help, but sometimes you can't do much, especially if your dog has shallow eye sockets. Over the counter remedies are definitely worth a try.
This is another product review for MiracleCorp! They asked me if I had any dogs that could benefit from their product Miracle Eyes and I responded with Bailey and my mom's dog, Baby Girl. They have some light staining, but nothing too serious.

Baby Girl before Miracle Eyes |
Miracle Eyes is a USA made, antibiotic free supplement that you sprinkle on your kitty or pup's food. It comes in 3 different flavors, chicken, vegetarian, and beef.
The only ingredients are cranberry juice powder (can be used to help with bladder infections and prevent ocular disease), Lactobacillus acidophilus (a natural bacteria usually found in the intestines, can prevent yeast growth which causes tear stains), and hyaluronic acid (a natural acid that is found in the body for cell reproduction and support eye health)
We also have chicken liver and some preservatives! Yum, chicken liver! |
For Bailey's weight, the recommended amount is 1/2 tsp. The chicken smell is very fragrant and smells good enough to eat!
shake shake shake! I make sure to coat all the kibble! |
So Bailey, what's the verdict? YUMMY! |
Baby Girl after 1 week of using Miracle Eyes |
Bailey after 1 week of using Miracle Eyes |
Amazingly, I started to see some improvement in Bailey's tear stains just after one week. I was told that you would see improvements after a couple weeks and total improvement after 6 weeks.
5 weeks later..
My mom and I see a little bit of improvement with Baby Girl, but not much. I think continued use might help, but she doesn't have too many tear stains to begin with.
Look how beautiful Bailey is! Her eyes "pop out" more and we even got a compliment from her Grandmama on how Bailey looked. I am very impressed with this product :D
As you can see, every dog is different and not everyone is going to get the same results. Bailey did have a worst case, so perhaps it was more noticeable.
The 4 oz bottle, depending on how big your dog is, should last you a while. You can buy a 2 or 4 oz bottle online from Amazon and some other online pet retailers. On average, the 2 oz is around $16 and the 4 oz $23
In a nutshell...
- Miracle Eyes for Dogs and Cats promotes eye health as the hair grows out and this prevents future tear stains
- It comes in three flavors, beef, chicken, and vegetarian
- USA made, minimal ingredients
- Main ingredient is dried cranberry juice
- 2 oz and 4 oz, $16-23
- Can be bought in our Amazon store here
- The supplement takes a few weeks to notice a difference, but will see total results in 6 weeks
- I absolutely think that it is worth it to buy this product if your pet has visible tear stains. If I could see an improvement on Bailey who had light staining, I believe that worse cases should also see an improvement as well.
Feelin' and lookin' good! |

sounds a great product,xx
ReplyDeleteI've heard about this but have never used it. I have a maltipoo and she doesn't get tear stains but it's something to keep in mind if she develops them!
ReplyDeleteIt is also great for just general eye health!
DeleteMy LadyBug has terrible tear stains and we have yet to figure out why! I have tried some of the tear stain products, but not this particular one. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHope you find something that helps!
DeleteSounds like a good product!
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I think it's awesome that it gets Baby Girl to eat more of her food. :)
ReplyDeleteMe too!
Deletegreat review! I will share with my friends :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThis seems like a very cool product! I will have to let my Mom know about it. She has 4 American Eskimos and with that beautiful white fur, those tear stains stick out. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteWhen we first got Mauja at 8 weeks, she had tear stains. I was a little concerned about irritation, but after talking to other pyr people I learned that tear staining is extremely common in puppies as they grow, it's just more visible on their white fur. After a few months, the staining went away. Hopefully, they don't have any future irritation!
ReplyDeleteYay! That's great!
DeleteGlad this worked so well for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this thorough review, I've been looking for something to us on Phoebe's tear stains which can be pretty significant. I try to keep up with cleaning her eyes but the stains are always there. She's a white Maltese/Havanese mix. I like that this product is made of natural ingredients, there's a really popular tear stain product out there that isn't natural, which is why I never used it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this would help her! I love that it is natural too :)
DeleteGreat review! I haven't yet had a tear stain problem, but if it ever comes up I'll keep this product in mind. Love that it's all-natural
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteWith black dogs, we don't have this concern. I imagine if I had a white dog I'd like to have the fur around their eyes nice and clean.
ReplyDeleteEven with Bailey being brown I saw that overall her eyes seemed so much brighter with this product! It is so neat :)
DeleteFirst really nice job on details of the review. Second, this looks like a great product. I have a dog with white fur but he never had an eye staining problem, knock on woof...
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope he doesn't get any problems either!
DeleteHow does this product work - does it change the Ph balance? I've always wondered cuz our little Chihuahua…. he's better known as 'wet soggy under eye' dood and he's full of stains!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about pH balance, but it has some ingredients in it that promotes eye health. Aww..that's a sad nickname, lol.
DeleteI love lots of photos in reviews~!
ReplyDeleteoh, me too! :D
DeleteInteresting post, thank you for sharing this product! Love the follow up photos.
ReplyDeleteYour Fluffy Pal, Spencer the Goldendoodle
Thanks! :)
DeleteClean eyes are so important! I think sometimes that is easy to forget because we can clean our own so easily, but it can be really irritating! Awesome review.
ReplyDeleteTrue that! Thanks!
